Michael Weatherly offers a production update for Tony and Ziva’s upcoming NCIS spinoff while also teasing a potential show location in Europe.
Michael Weatherly teases a potential new location for Tony and Ziva’s NCIS spinoff. Joining the actor is Cote de Pablo, who will return as a former Mossad operative-turned-NCIS agent and the “Very Special Agent’s” partner. The upcoming Tony and Ziva NCIS expansion series will see the couple as they go on adventures in Europe with their daughter Tali. No official release date has been announced, but work on Tony and Ziva’s NCIS offshoot has started.
Taking it to his official Instagram account, Weatherly teases a possible new location for the new show currently nicknamed NCIS: Europe. Check out the image below:
In the photo, Weatherly appears to be on a ski trip in the Alps, with the Matterhorn seemingly in the background. It’s possible Tony and Ziva’s NCIS show will have scenes in Switzerland.
The NCIS mothership series takes place in Washington DC, but as the franchise expanded over the years, it launched countless other satellite offices in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Hawaii. The spinoff NCIS: Sydney is the first international outpost for the special agents, setting a precedent that the universe can tell stories beyond the US border. Ziva and Tony’s show will follow suit as its events take place in Europe, with the synopsis revealing that they will be on the run.
Years after they left the show and reunited off-screen, Ziva and Tony are now living in Paris with Tali. The physical separation initially helps in explaining why the NCIS headquarters can’t easily recruit them back if there’s a particularly difficult case. It’s currently uncertain what keeps them busy in France aside from taking care of their daughter, but both are capable agents with US federal experience. They may have started a security agency as their business to earn money. This is also a way to explain why the family of three is suddenly on the run.
The NCIS universe is once again expanding with the unexpected Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David spinoff, and the new shoe has a lot of story to cover.
Unlike other expansion series airing on broadcast TV, Tony and Ziva’s NCIS spinoff will stream on Paramount+, this means that it may not take on a procedural format. Instead, a full season will deal with a single case, similar to how the platform transitioned Criminal Minds from CBS. On top of that, it’s also curious if they are planning multiple seasons of the new show or if it will be a limited series.
