Attorney General Pam Bondi and her partner John Wakefield’s relationship dates back to 2017.

The former Florida attorney general shared the first glimpse into her relationship with Wakefield on social media that year, posting about a concert they attended together. Wakefield, a private equity firm founder, has since been seen supporting Bondi on several occasions, notably appearing beside her during her swearing-in ceremony as United States attorney general in February 2025.

Prior to her relationship with Wakefield, Bondi was engaged to Greg Henderson. She was previously married to Scott Fitzgerald for a few years before their divorce in 2002, and to Garret Barnes in the early 1990s before splitting in 1992.

While little is known about Wakefield’s romantic life prior to being with Bondi, he seems to be the father of three children, according to his Instagram bio.

He’s a founder at a private equity firm

Wakefield is one of the founding principals at Varner Wakefield Equity Partners, a private equity firm focused on real-estate investments across the country.

Prior to forming Varner Wakefield in 2015, he worked as a banker for several years and was later the vice president of corporate business development and strategy at Lykes Bros Inc., according to his LinkedIn page.

Wakefield obtained a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Charleston in 1994, and an international business degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in 1998.

Their relationship dates back to at least 2017

While it’s unclear when exactly Bondi and Wakefield began seeing each other, the former banker first made an appearance on her Instagram in 2017.

At the time, Bondi posted a selfie featuring Wakefield and some of their friends at a Bruno Mars concert.

“Great night at Bruno Mars w Chillura’s and friends,” the attorney general captioned the October 2017 post.

He attended Bondi’s swearing-in ceremony

Wakefield showed his support for Bondi during her attorney general swearing-in ceremony in February 2025.

At the time, the firm founder stood beside Bondi and held the Bible she was swearing her oath on as Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas guided the ceremony. President Donald Trump even mentioned Wakefield during a brief address after Bondi’s swearing-in, calling him her “very handsome husband.”

“I just want to introduce her very, very handsome husband. I hate being around him. He looks too good,” the president said. “He’s been a tremendous factor with Pam and just a beautiful relationship.”

Although Trump referred to Wakefield as Bondi’s husband, neither member of the couple have confirmed if they are married.

Bondi shares their relationship on social media

Prior to assuming her role as attorney general at the White House, Bondi regularly posted snippets of her and Wakefield’s relationship on Instagram.

In 2018, the politician posted a carousel of photos of the two celebrating Christmas at the White House. The couple could be seen posing next to Trump in the Oval Office in one photo.

She also celebrated Wakefield’s birthday in an Oct. 20, 2017, Instagram post, sharing a selfie of the two and a photo of Wakefield with who appear to be his three children by the pool.

One of Bondi’s more recent photos of the two on Instagram sees them posing at a scenic spot in Ireland in 2022.
