Jamie Lee Curtis Is ‘Prepping to Get Out’ of Hollywood After Seeing Her Famous Parents ‘Rejected’ by Industry When They Reached a ‘Certain Age’: ‘I Have Been Self-Retiring for 30 Years’

Jamie Lee Curtis is preparing to leave the spotlight for good.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Curtis detailed what it was like watching her famous parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, be “rejected” by Hollywood after they reached a “certain age.” The “Halloween” star said the experience pushed her to begin “self-retiring” early so she could avoid the same fate.

“I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age,” Curtis said. “I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone. And that’s very painful.”

She continued, “I have been self-retiring for 30 years. I have been prepping to get out, so that I don’t have to suffer the same as my family did. I want to leave the party before I’m no longer invited.”

Although she’s planning for an early exit, Curtis’ star is still on the rise. She recently appeared alongside original costar Lindsay Lohan in “Freakier Friday,” the sequel to their classic 2003 family comedy. Other cast members include Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

While talking to Variety at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Curtis said Lohan taught her “so much” while filming the Disney sequel.

“She has her team, where her two people would be standing on either side of a camera holding a big light,” she said. “It’s Lindsay lighting — that would have been good branding — they hold lights so that we look better. So, I’ve learned a lot from her already. We had a good time. We love each other.”
