I\u2019ve loved him since I was 18 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a big adjustment just trying to change patterns and habits,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019ll do fine, and I\u2019m very involved in my work and that\u2019s been the best thing that could happen to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DOLLY PARTON\u2019S HUSBAND, CARL DEAN, DEAD AT 82<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I\u2019ll always miss him, of course, and always love him. However, in 2016, he spoke lovingly of Parton while the couple were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy first thought was, \u2018I\u2019m going to marry that girl,\u2019\u201d Dean told Entertainment Tonight about meeting Parton for the first time. \u201cMy second thought was, \u2018Lord, she\u2019s good-looking.\u2019 And that was the day my life began. I wouldn\u2019t trade the last 50 years for nothing on this Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While appearing on \u201cToday,\u201d Parton recalled an interaction between herself and a young fan during this year\u2019s opening-day parade at her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on March 14.<\/p>\n<p>In a viral clip, a little boy was seen appearing shocked and overjoyed when he spotted Parton, who smiled and pointed at him as she rode by in a carriage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember him in the parade. I was thinking, \u2018Honey, are you gonna have a heart attack right here in front of everybody?\u2019\u201d Parton said. \u201cIt was the sweetest thing. I just wanted to get off of that cart and run down and just squeeze him. It was just great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The moment took place while Parton was making her first public appearance following Dean\u2019s death. The \u201cJolene\u201d singer surprised fans when she attended the opening-day celebrations in honor of Dollywood\u2019s 40th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>During her appearance on the show, Parton admitted that taking part in the parade amid her grief over Dean\u2019s death had been challenging.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8548\" src=\"https:\/\/en33.usnews.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/46d9c112c62788f9afca55cc0294568c.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en33.usnews.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/46d9c112c62788f9afca55cc0294568c.jpg 650w, https:\/\/en33.usnews.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/46d9c112c62788f9afca55cc0294568c-300x185.jpg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got very emotional that day after the parade because there was just so much love like that,\u201d she said. \u201cRight after I had lost Carl and I was just so bottled up with emotion, and I got in the van and just boo-hooed for the longest time, just feeling all that love and emotion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parton announced Dean\u2019s death in a heartfelt statement that she shared on Instagram on March 3.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarl and I spent many wonderful years together,\u201d the \u201c9 to 5\u201d singer wrote. \u201cWords can\u2019t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On March 7, Parton took to Instagram to reveal a new song that she had dedicated to Dean, titled \u201cIf You Hadn\u2019t Been There.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old,\u201d she wrote along with a throwback photo of herself with her spouse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together,\u201d Parton continued in her caption. \u201cLike all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. So, I\u2019m going to have to relearn some of the things that we\u2019ve done.
